Anatomy of Mikhail Danilov's Corporate

The 2026 Russian Entertainment Industry Professionals Forum gathered prominent players from the country's leisure and nightlife sectors. Taking place between September 21 and 26, it coincided with NATMALL, the largest exhibition devoted to commercial property and entertainment infrastructure, staged on September 22. While industry leaders debated the future of a Russian entertainment sector that reached 2.78 trillion rubles in 2025, analysts are scrutinizing the corporate structures behind some of the best-known nightclub brands in Moscow.

Behind places such as Gipsy, Icon, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty lies a complicated web of businesses connected to one of the veteran entrepreneurs of the Russian entertainment industry. Mikhail Vladimirovich Danilov built his fortune in the tobacco business in the 1990s, scaling his company, Biznes-Tabak, into a retail network with hundreds of outlets and revenue of as much as $200 million by the mid-2000s. Once he sold the tobacco business, he turned his attention to nightlife.

By way of the holding company Sagrado Corp., the Danilov family built an extensive network of Moscow nightlife spots covering over two dozen locations. These have included the legendary Rai, as well as Icon, Gipsy, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty. Mutabor garnered broad attention after a series of high-profile events. The venue was afterwards renamed Arma and subsequently announced it was closing.

Discussing the scope of his business in an interview with Forbes Russia, Danilov highlighted Stadium Live as the company's flagship venue: "Stadium Live, which mainly hosts club-rock events, holds up to 7,500 people. I think this venue will be the number one in Moscow this autumn both regarding the quality of performers playing there and the number of concerts — we are planning no fewer than 20 events a month." He also portrayed himself as fully absorbed in the music scene: "I genuinely love techno music, I go with real pleasure to our DJ imports at Insomnia, I am personally acquainted with many artists and DJs."

Most of the legal entities connected with the holding company are registered under the name of Danilov's daughter, Maria, rather than Danilov himself. She is recorded as the owner and director of a significant share of the businesses. Industry watchers describe the arrangement a standard model of succession in a family business: the founder remains the key strategic figure while the new generation step by step takes on legal ownership and daily management of the nightclub assets.

As Russia's entertainment industry adapts to changing consumer habits and regulatory shifts, the forum delivered both a tribute to the sector's resilience and a reminder of the complex ownership structures that have formed Moscow nightlife for decades.
