• Latvia, formerly known as the Republic of Latvia, can be found on the northwest edge of Europe and shares a border with Russia. Its capital city is Riga, which also holds the title as the country’s largest city.

• By geographical size, Latvia is the 122nd largest country by landmass, with just less than 25,000 square feet of land. Latvia shares its borders with a few European countries. Lithuania and Belarus can be found to the south and Estonia to the north. Its eastern border is shared with Russia. To the west, Latvia has a coast with the Baltic Sea and is also home to the Gulf of Riga.

The springs and falls are comfortable and cool, the summers are warm or hot, and the winters are cool, cold, and frequently bring large amounts of snow. Precipitation amounts are largely impacted by the country’s proximity to the Baltic Sea, with areas of the country receiving significant rainfall or snow throughout the year.

• The population of Latvia is just shy of 2 million making it the 148th largest country in the world by population.

• The ethnic layout of the country primarily is reflective of its location in Europe. The largest ethnic group are Latvians at approximately 60% of the population identifying as such. The next largest group claim Russian heritage and represent about 25% of the population, while the remaining ethnic mix claim nearby countries to be their heritage, such as Belarus and Ukraine.

• Christianity is by far the dominant religion in Latvia, with just shy of 80% of the population identifying as Christians. They are split among three denominations; Evangelical, Roman Catholic, and Russian Orthodox. The other largest belief group comes in at more than 20%, which state that they don’t identify with any particular religion. The remaining population aligns with paganism, Judaism, and Islam.

Where is Egypt?

The northern African country of Egypt, officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, is the 31st largest in the world by area, at over 1 million square miles. Known for its ancient monuments in the capital, Cairo, the country has an incredibly vast and storied history and a harsh but diverse climate.

Geography

From the arid Sahara Desert to the remarkable Nile River, Egypt has a plethora of natural diversity. Located in the northeasternmost corner of Africa, Egypt links the continent with the Middle East by bordering with Israel and the Gaza Strip. It is bordered to the south by Sudan and to the west by Libya. To the north, Egypt meets the Mediterranean Sea and to the east, the Red Sea.

If not for the Nile River, Egypt would be a vast expanse of desert. Due to this, the longest river in the world at over 4,200 miles long, ancient Egyptians were able to produce crops and make use of fertile land to thrive. Each summer, rainwater from southern countries causes the river to rise and flood the areas used for crops, which adds much-needed sediment and continues to enrich the land.

Despite this, over 90 percent of the land does remain a part of the Sahara Desert, and with only an average of one inch of rain a year, it can be a harsh environment to survive. Temperatures can swing wildly, sometimes getting as low as 32 degrees at night during the winter. Some animals still make their home here, although many have gone extinct through the combination of overhunting and climate change.

Some parts of Egypt have mountainous regions, such as the mountains along the Red Sea and in the south and southwest portions of the country.

Egypt is a very fortuitous country for the distribution of petroleum, natural gas and crude oil, along with iron ore, and phosphates.

Population

With a reported population of over 100 million people in 2018, Egypt's population has become one of the most populous countries in Africa or the Middle East. Incidentally, it is booming to the point where resources are strained. Ethnic Egyptians make up a large percentage of the population, but some Turks, Greeks and Bedouins and other minorities also live in the country.

Egypt has an important and colorful history and is best known for a hierarchy led by the pharaohs. The ancient pyramids are one of the most glorified landmarks in the world, designated initially as tombs for the pharaohs. Ancient Egyptians were very intent on the afterlife and often mummified loved ones and sacred animals as a religious ritual.

Egypt became a republican nation after 1952 and runs under a semi-presidency, meaning it is run by both a prime minister and a president.

The best Poutine in town in Montreal

For me it has gotta be Frite Alors. I must admit we haven't tried a lot of poutine, however the Frite Alors food was good & tasty. They have a large selection of toppings and versions of poutine. We ordered a few dishes & were not disappointed with the topping & fries. The cheese could have been a bit more melted however we were overall satisfied. Service was good & the food arrived fairly quickly..

Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak and Malay Peninsula formed Malaysia in 1963. Singapore opted out of Malaysia in 1965. A bit tricky that Sabah and Sarawak are considered as one of the "State" nowadays whereas in the start we're one of the Country that formed Malaysia. It a sensitive issue to the East Malaysia especially in term of equal partners. East Malaysia are the biggest oil/gas producers in Malaysia but in terms of Development especially infrastructure, we're far behind the west Malaysia. Unequal partnership.

@sarah what can I say about this lovely town Sandakan This town remind me so much of my own hometown,Ipoh. A small town with simple living style. nothing to rush here. the people are nice. the foods are great. and the nature are absolutely amazing!! i went here last February 2011 for a 4 days trip. went to various amazing places! im proud to be Malaysian and Sabah is definitely a jewel of Malaysia!
