Slovenia and Croatia are neighbors, however they have a bad political relation due to some border issues. The Slovenian and Croatian people also generally dont seem to like each other, perhaps because there is some kind of competition between them. As right now the Slovenian Macro and Microeconomic appears to be way ahead as the Croatian one.The two countries speak different languages and, due to its location along the Alps and the absence of a significant coastline, Slovenia shares a culture with its Austrian neighbors that is very different from the Croatian. Croatian culture varies greatly from region to region, based on geography and proximity to other, neighboring countries - Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Montenegro, Italy and Slovenia. Croatia also has a very long coastline and long time connections to the wider Medditerranean. As a result, Croatia is heavily influenced by Latin or Medditerranean culture. Croatia has a better economic base, but is not Slovenias economic equal yet because the country endured a war for half a decade and experiences more corruption and political divisiveness. So, Slovenes love Croatian food and the Croatian coastline, but are upset that Croatian littoral sea rights prevent Slovenia from accessing international waters and that Croats harrass Slovene vaction home owners in Croatia. Croats are envious of Slovenian relative affluence and its display by Slovenes when visiting. While living in a common federal state, Slovenes often voted counter to Croatias interest in exchange for return policy favors by other states in the federation and there is a perception that the same happens in the EU context. However, both equally distrust and dislike the Italians and Austrians for their discrimination against Croat and Slovene minorities in those countries. Croatia is a very important market for Slovenia and Slovenia is an important source of investment capital for Croatia. No passport is required by the two countries citizens to travel across their mutual border. They are both glad not to be Serbian. There are many mixed marriages in the border regions between the two countries. Marshal Tito, the most significant figure in the regions 20th century politics was half Slovene, half Croat.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland once ruled Canada. Canada is an independant nation but is part of the British Commonwealth. France also ruled over a large part of what became Canada. They settled the East Coast and Quebec and remained until the 7 Years War when the French lost on the Plains of Abraham to the British. If you stretch history back, you could also say the Vikings settled small parts of Canada with their early settlements in Vineland. But this occurred before the word Canada was created. Before European contact, each area of Canada was controlled by distinct First Nations tribes. There were 6 groups that controlled Canada: Woodland First Nations, Iroquoian First Nations, Plains First Nations, Plateau First Nations, Pacific Coast First Nations and the First Nations of the Mackenzie and Yukon River Basins.

Chlorofluorocarbon gases (CFCs) take six or seven years to move up to the stratosphere and the winds spread them all round the world.Extreme cold, a freezing vortex wind, frozen stratospheric clouds and 6-month darkness over Antarctica all provide ideal conditions for chlorine to break from the CFCs.The chlorine (and bromine) gases destroy the ozone during spring (Sept to Dec) and this is what causes the ozone hole.More detail:Chlorofluorocarbon gases (CFCs) and related halocarbon gases are the main cause of ozone depletion all over the world. CFCs released from Western countries take several years to reach the stratosphere where the ozone layer is. During that time winds spread them all over the world. In the presence of ultraviolet light these gases release chlorine and bromine atoms which destroy some of the ozone in the ozone layer. This is called ozone depletion. The ozone hole is a related but different phenomenon. The hole is Antarctica occurs in the spring (September to December). It begins with this overall ozone thinning, but it is assisted by the presence of polar stratospheric clouds (PS clouds). During the extreme cold of winter, with no sun for six months, polar winds create a vortex which traps and chills the air; the temperature is below -80 Celsius. The ice in these PS clouds provides surfaces for the chemical reactions that destroy the ozone. This needs light to kick-start the reactions.In spring the sun rises above the horizon and provides energy which starts the photochemical reactions. The clouds melt and the trapped compounds (chlorine and chlorine monoxide from the CFCs) are released. Ozone in the lower stratosphere is destroyed and the ozone hole appears.By the end of spring warmer December temperatures break up the vortex and destroy the PS clouds. Sunlight starts creating ozone again and the hole begins to repair.(A similar hole in the Arctic [but smaller because of warmer temperatures] occurs during spring.)
