Teflon tape or PTFE Tape, is designed to give you a watertight seal and it's commonly used on drainage pipes, water lines and gas pipe lines. Just keep in mind that a compression connection join does not need Teflon tape. The threads on these connections are not designed to create the seal.

Mushybees. Gas PTFE tape is much thicker. Can be used on joints on water pipe work but its overkill IMO. Regular PTFE shouldnt be used on gas joints but you shouldnt be working on gas pipes if you dont know that.

Additionally, do you use Teflon tape on water supply lines? Most faucets will have hot and cold water supply lines attached, so you just need to connect them to the appropriate water supply line. You may need to use Teflon tape (aka plumbers tape) for this part, which is used to seal and lubricate threaded pipe joints.

These type of leaks must be repaired by cutting the PVC pipe and replacing the fitting. If your pipe fitting is threaded at the place of the leak, you may very well be able to stop the drip by unscrewing the pipe joint and replacing the tape. Teflon tape will work on any of these threaded fittings.
