• Myanmar is located in Southeast Asia. Also called Burma, Myanmar is comprised of over 100 different nationalities. Myanmar is not a landlocked country, though it does share borders with five other Asian countries. These include Thailand, China, Bangladesh, India, and Laos.

• The GPS coordinates of Myanmar are 21.9162° N and 95.9560° E. With a latitude in the north and a longitude in the east, Myanmar is located in the northern and eastern hemispheres. All countries positioned in the northern hemisphere are also located above the equator, Myanmar included.

• The most extreme point of Myanmar in the north is along the Irrawaddy River. With a GPS latitudinal coordinate of 28°32' N, the Irrawaddy River flows through the entire country of Myanmar, from north to south, ultimately spilling into the Andaman Sea. The southernmost point of Myanmar is at a latitude of 09°59' N above the equator. In particular, this point is in the town of Kawthaung, which is part of the Tanintharyi Region of Myanmar.

• To the east, Myanmar extends as far as Shan State. Bordered by Burma, Thailand, China, and Laos, Shan State is at the easternmost point along the China-Laos-Myanmar border at a longitude of 101°10' E. The most extreme point of western Myanmar is at a longitudinal coordinate of 92°15' E. This point is part of the Rakhine State of Myanmar along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.

• Myanmar has a population of 54,073,603 people. In comparison with the global population, Myanmar only accounts for 0.71% of people on earth. The country ranks as the 26th most populous country in the world, out of 195 countries in total.

• The total area of Myanmar comes to approximately 252,237 square miles. Of this area, about 7,718.45 square miles are coastline, and the remaining 244,518.55 square miles are comprised of land. Myanmar is roughly 3.06% water and 96.94% land. The water areas include the shore along the Bay of Bengal.
