RE: How did Austria get its name?
A derivation of the real name: Oestereich (check spelling), which I would translate as eastern realm. But east of which country? It lies South East from Germany. Is that it? It is directly East of Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Who knows the history?

RE: Yogurt-like product from Iceland?
In Iceland they serve skyr, a kind of soft cheese similar to yoghurt, as a dessert or with muesli and other cereals. Iceland exports skyr and it is available in tubs in supermarket dairy cases in the UK, US, and Australia; I expect it is available in other countries as well.

RE: What does Vietnam have in common with China?
The word Vietnam is derived from two Chinese words meaning the Viet kin in the South. Traditionally, the people of Vietnam have been regarded by westerners as staunchly xenophobic, and, as such, have been viewed as having a long standing contempt for Chinese influence on the region. Border and island disputes have only exacerbated long-standing tensions between the two nations. Vietnam and China share many common cultural traditions which originated from the wet rice cultivation. China controlled Vietnam for about 1000 years, a rule which ended in 939CE. Thus, Vietnamese culture, writing, politics, religion, etc. were sinicized to a a certain degree. Yet the degree to which Vietnam preserved a distinct identity and maintained separate traditions should also be noted. During the 1st and 2nd Indochinese Wars, Vietnam grew closer to PR of China and received some funding, material, and advisors from the PRC. However, war with China in 1979 renewed hostilities. the reason why Vietnam and china are close because is that they are both communism country, there isnt much comminusim country left in the world

RE: What languages are spoken in Slovakia and Slovenia?
Official language is Slovene.
The vast majority of Slovenians speak Slovene. Its a Slavic language very similar to Croatian and Serbian and somewhat related to other Slavic languages like Polish and Russian. Second language for older people was Serbo-Croatian language, but for most population its English.
In some muncipialities where minorities live, Hungarian and Italian are also official languages. A small minority of Slovenians speak Italian mostly in the area near the Italian border. Smaller minorities speak Hungarian and Croatian. English is very widely spoken as a second language along with German, Croatian/Serbian and Italian.
The only official language is Slovenian , or Slovene .
Most of them speak Slovene..In some schools students speak even Hungarian and Italian.So people speak many languages here, because in Slovenia, there are;
83.1% Slovenes ,
2.0% Serbs,
1.8% Croats,
1.1% Bosniaks, 12.0% others and unspecified
The Slovenian people speak Slovenian/Slovene, which is very similar to Croatian, Serbian and other Slavic languages.
They speak Slovenian, and Serbo-Croatian
People in Slovenia mainly (more than 95%) speak in Slovenian language. Slovenia also has two minorities: Italian and Hungarian. Those two languages are also recognized as official languages on the territories where those two minorities live. There is also a quite large community of people form ex-Yugoslav republics, who came to Slovenia looking for work. They may speak Serbian/Croatian.
Slovenian people speak Slovene, a South Slavic language.
Slovenian.
Slovenian.
Slovenian. (Slovenščina)However, by law they are bilingual on the coast (Slovenian and Italian) and in the area near the Austrian border (Slovenian and German).
During Titos administration, the unifying language of the area was Serbo-Croatian, so all public schools in what is now (and was prior to the Former Yugoslavia) Slovenia, taught Serbo-Croatian and Slovenian.
