As of January 2012, same-sex marriage is recognized in Andorra, but cannot be legally performed there. However, as of March 2005, Andorra offers a kind of same-sex civil union called a stable union of couple or de facto union which provides some of the rights and responsibilities of legal marriage. In January 2012, the Andorran Supreme Court ruled that a same-sex marriage performed in Spain was legal in Andorra, even though the couple had not registered a partnership in Andorra.
