      • Italy is not surrounded by water, though its coastline takes up a majority of the country's borders. The GPS coordinates of Italy show that this European country lies along the Mediterranean Sea. With a latitude of 41.8719° N, Italy is in the northern hemisphere, above the equator. The longitude of Italy is 12.5674° E which indicates that Italy is also in the eastern hemisphere.

      • In the north, Italy's most extreme point is positioned at a latitude of 47°05' N. Located in Zwillingsköpfl, this point is part of Italy's South Tyrol Autonomous Province.

      • In the opposite direction, the southernmost point of Italy is up for debate. On the country's mainland, the cape of Spartivento is Italy's southernmost point. The latitude of Cape Spartivento is 37°56' N. Offshore, Italy's most southern point is on the island of Lampedusa in Sicily. The coordinate of this point is 35°30' N.

      • To the east, Cape Palascìa is the easternmost point of Italy. In the city of Otranto of Italy's Apulian territory, Cape Palascìa has a longitude of 18°31' E. In the west, Italy reaches a longitude of 6°37' E. This point is atop the mountain, Rocca Bernauda, in the Alps Mountain Range, located in the Piedmont Region of Italy.

      • Italy’s total area is about 116,347 square miles. Of the total area, approximately 113,567 square miles are land areas, while the other 2,780 square miles are inland water sources. With a width of 157 miles and a length of 885 miles, there are twenty total land regions in Italy.

      • The population of Italy currently exists around 59,252,821 people. With a population of this magnitude, Italy comprises about 0.77% of the global population. Compared to the rest of the world’s countries, Italy is the 24th most populated of them all. Italy has a population density of 510 people per square mile in the country.
