Aruba is an island in the Netherlands Antilles and is therefore controlled by Holland. However, unlike Bonaire and Curacao which are nearby Dutch-controlled islands, Aruba achieved status aparte on January 1, 1986, and therefore has local government powers for an array of local matters and has its own Flag and its own Anthem, both celebrated on Flag and Anthem Day, March 17, each yeaer.
